Coaching Approaches & Methods
I get to the root of what's keeping my client from achieving their goals so they can fully step into who they are in the world. I use a number of methods, including cognitive behavioral therapy and neuro-linguistic programming.
About
I am a catalyst, innovator and edifier. I love seeing people connect to an authentic sense of who they are and the unique value they have to offer the world.
I've personally grappled through and overcome in the areas of identity, confidence and self-esteem, facing fears & taking calculated risks to explore growth, meaning and change.
I studied Social Sciences at Rhodes University and did my Honors Degree in Sociology. From there I went on to serve as Executive Director at a church, which enriched my life experience and understanding of people on a number of levels. I enjoy working with people interested in personal development, leadership, communication and team dynamics. I also enjoy creating a blueprint for new business ideas for budding entrepreneurs who want to explore the ideas they have and put pen to paper.
Whether it's identifying your goals, skills and the unique presence you bring; or wanting a seasoned mentor to ask the right questions and hold you accountable in journeying towards personal goals that you do have, I'd love to leverage what I've learned to help you accelerate your process.

We identified a number of mistaken beliefs I had about myself which was crippling my self-confidence and my ability to relate to others. I began to identify the lies I believed about myself and how others see me and learned how to process those negative thoughts and how to bring the truth to them. A number of the exercises were scary, like asking people what I contribute to their lives, but it was worth it to separate the lies from the truth. I always felt heard after speaking to you, and always gained more insight on my situation. You listen very well, and you have a great ability to discern underlying issues and to ask the right questions. I'd recommend Meryn to others for getting the tools to help people with personal breakthrough in their identity and to overcome false beliefs that cause low self-esteem and anxiety.

In coaching with Meryn, I learned that I have value and that I can take space and what I bring to the table matters. Meryn made me feel safe and really helped me draw out my confidence and stand in it. I'd recommend her to others for confidence and wanting to figure out what you want to do in life as well as identity. Her strengths include the balance of seeing one's pain and vulnerability and making the space safe for those feelings while also giving practical tools to get breakthrough.

Always super professional. The approach was always unique and a great mix between well-planned (reviewing and building on previous weeks' sessions) and dynamic (knew which trails to pursue more as they came up in speech). Appreciated the kindness and space holding, but also the confidence to lead, direct, call out and challenge (always with respect and compassion). Appreciated the honesty; even when it came down to "life coaching isn't what is needed for you right now, I don't think". And really enjoyed the clear direction given, both at the beginning of the process and at the beginning and end of every session: "this is what we're going to do... this is what we learned today." Love the "this is what I'm hearing you saying" approach to gage connection and also to encourage further introspection and dialogue. Loved that there was no judgement when the sessions were just (angry) tears. I'd recommend Meryn for identity/getting a clearer sense of who you are. Also, a compassionate challenging alternative outlook/second voice to really narrow down next steps that seem blurry. Whether it is for personal growth or business, you are a great fog disperser, helping grasp the tools, ideas and focus that is needed for the next step so that overwhelm is less likely.
