Coaching Approaches & Methods

My approach is assessment-led rather than one-size-fits-all. Every client starts with a thorough assessment of their history, what's worked before, what hasn't, and what matters most to them right now. And that shapes everything that follows.

I draw on the structured recovery curriculum I designed (The Pritchard Programme, adopted by UK prison services), but one-to-one work isn't that programme applied wholesale. It's practical coaching shaped around the individual: relapse prevention planning, working through setbacks, building a recovery strategy that fits their actual life.

Sessions are purposeful and focused - identifying triggers and coping strategies, planning next steps, working through whatever's come up - aimed at moving forward rather than open-ended exploration. I also work with families, helping them understand addiction, set healthy boundaries, and build communication patterns that support lasting recovery for both the individual and the family system.

This is grounded equally in lived experience and professional practice: thirty years navigating addiction myself, over a decade of frontline recovery work across UK addiction services and prisons, and I'm currently completing an MSc in Mental Health and Addiction Studies.

About

I spent thirty years in addiction and thirteen years in prison. In my early forties, I turned a corner; entering recovery through Life-Line substance misuse services and committing to frontline recovery work. That was thirteen years ago.

Since then I've worked as a peer mentor, recovery champion, and support worker across some of the UK's most demanding addiction services: Life-Line, Inspire, and Mulberry Community Project in Blackpool. My proudest achievement is designing The Pritchard Programme, a 16-week recovery curriculum I developed for frontline use, which was adopted by HMP prison services across the Northwest. I delivered it across four prisons (Styal, Kirkham, Risley, and Hindley), not as an inmate, but as a civilian programme facilitator. That distinction matters: I know both sides of it.

More recently, I co-founded and led The Glade Rehabilitation Centre in Thailand, bringing the programme to residential clients as lead practitioner. When The Glade closed in April 2026, that's what brought me here; to building an online practice that makes this same work available to anyone, anywhere, without needing a residential bed to access it.

Today my work sits at the intersection of lived experience and professional practice: I'm currently studying for an MSc in Mental Health and Addiction Studies, and entirely focused on coaching that works: assessment-led, practical, shaped around where you actually are.
